◦ Don't Let Your Smile Slip

Fixed fast,
so teeth stay put.

Teeth have a natural tendency to drift back toward their old positions. A retainer is the only thing holding your results in place — which is why a broken or missing one is worth addressing right away.

The Repair

Quick, Precise, and Comfortable

Whether your retainer cracked, bent, or simply stopped fitting, we assess it right away. Many issues are repaired the same day; when a remake is smarter, we take a precise impression or scan for a comfortable new fit.

We Can Help With:

  • Cracked acrylic or bent wires on Hawley retainers
  • Cracked, warped, or lost clear (Essix) retainers
  • Loose or broken bonded (permanent) retainers
Why It Matters

A Few Days Can Make a Difference

Relapse is real. Without steady retention, teeth begin migrating back within days — and once they move, an old retainer no longer fits. Acting quickly protects the time and cost you invested in a straight smile.

Wearing a Retainer Helps You:

  • Hold your straightened teeth exactly where they belong
  • Avoid relapse that could mean repeating treatment
  • Protect your investment in Invisalign or orthodontics

◦ Your Visit

What to expect when your retainer breaks.

From the moment you call to a comfortable new fit, here's how we get your smile protected again.

01

Bring It In

Call us the moment your retainer breaks, cracks, or stops fitting. Bring the pieces if you have them — sometimes a repair is all you need.

02

Assessment

Dr. Greene checks the fit of your retainer and the position of your teeth to see whether a repair will work or a fresh replacement is smarter.

03

Repair or Remake

We repair minor damage quickly, or take a new impression or scan to fabricate a precise replacement that fits comfortably.

04

Fit & Guidance

We confirm a snug, comfortable fit and review a simple wear-and-care routine so your next retainer lasts as long as possible.

◦ Frequently asked

Questions,
answered.

01

Can you fix my broken retainer, or do I need a new one?

It depends on the damage. A cracked acrylic base or a bent wire on a Hawley retainer can often be repaired the same day. Clear retainers that are cracked or warped usually need to be re-molded, and a broken bonded retainer is typically re-bonded or replaced. Bring it in and we'll tell you the fastest, most cost-effective option.
02

How soon do I need to replace a lost or broken retainer?

As soon as possible. Teeth can begin to shift within just a few days without a retainer, and even small movements can make an old retainer stop fitting. The sooner we see you, the more likely we can restore your exact result rather than needing more involved treatment.
03

Do you repair retainers made by another dentist or orthodontist?

Yes. We repair and replace retainers regardless of where they were originally made — Hawley, clear Essix, or bonded permanent retainers. Just bring in what you have and we'll take it from there.
04

What if my teeth have already shifted?

If your teeth have moved noticeably, a new retainer may no longer fit, and forcing an old one isn't safe. In that case we'll discuss options to gently realign your teeth — including Invisalign — before fitting a fresh retainer to hold the result.
05

Do you accept insurance for retainer repair?

Coverage for retainer repair and replacement varies by plan, and we're happy to check your benefits before you commit to anything. We also offer flexible payment options for patients without insurance. See our Insurance & Financing page for details.
